Asylum to Autonomy

Croydon Youth Consortium

Asylum to Autonomy is a project designed to empower young people seeking asylum and from refugee backgrounds in Croydon. Developed in partnership with Bluetouch London, the programme aims to provide participants with the support, knowledge, and training they need to tackle their own issues and support others in similar circumstances.

Young people seeking asylum and refugees often feel alone navigating new and unfamiliar systems while struggling for basics and seeking safety and stability. Through this programme, participants will gain access to valuable skills, including Mental Health First Aid, ESOL courses, leadership training and digital literacy–necessary tools to starting a new life.

Over 12 months, participants will form a network of trained individuals equipped to provide ongoing support and guidance to their peers from similar backgrounds. This network will foster a sense of community and belonging among participants, creating a lasting impact where empowered ambassadors continue to mentor and support new arrivals.

In their new roles, ambassadors will be encouraged to strengthen connections between young people, schools and the wider community, helping to showcase potential and promote integration.
